I make sculpted landscape paintings that project out from the wall, like open dioramas. The subjects are derived from landscape archetypes of beauty, such as mountains, forests, deserts, sunsets, rivers and bodies of water. I recognize the common and collective love for these subjects, as spaces for reflecting, contemplation, and surrendering to something larger and more timeless than us. I also see conflicts, and our ecological footprint in these landscapes, whether perceived or actual. The conflict can be specific, or unspecific, and imply environmental, political cultural or historical issues. Sometimes it is a blatant problem like a melting glacier, other times it is more of a subtle inference that affects my perception of the space. The process of creating my pictures is much about the mitigation of these conflicted subjects, real or contrived, while trying to re-imagine beauty.

I construct very small pictures and environments with found objects, doll house furniture, paint, fabric, and thread. I am heavily influenced by my job as a Mammography Technologist. My current work is a fusion between my profession as a Mammography and my fascination with miniatures. I handle and position thousands of breasts each year. I use the female breast in my artwork, with all of its symbolism and nurturing abundance.
My tiny universes are a place to work out the complexities of the breast. A symbol of power, sexuality, fertility, but simultaneously a weighty, cumbersome appendage that is a constant threat of disease. There is a connection for me between the life size breast and the doll house scale. My art is a small but manageable territory where I can playfully sort these loaded symbols.
