The Turkish fabric listed refers to the fabric squares that are hand-sewn to the 4 corners of this tapestry. Several sequin squares were souvenirs gifted to me by my son upon his return from a wedding in Turkey. I made a rubbing from the sequin pattern and transferred the pattern to a rubber foam sheet and hand-cut a stencil which was used to apply the gold-painted background pattern onto the canvas and drop cloth.

There are 2 textured fabrics outlining the center diamond shape: One is translucent with velvety shapes attached and the second is sequined. The outer panels that alternate with the drop cloth are an iridescent fabric.

The segment of brocade is from Morocco, inherited from my mother. She purchased it in the Kasbah in Tangiers, Morocco, in 1963 on a family trip intending to make a dress but never did. The lower right fabric is sequined.

Cross-Pollination
Cross-Pollination integrates the traditions and methods of fabrication of ornamental textiles with those of abstract painting analogous to the transfer of pollen from one flower to (the stigma of) another; a sharing or interchange of knowledge, ideas, etc., for mutual enrichment; cross-fertilization. It can happen naturally or through deliberate effort.
Deborah Kamy Hull Bio
Deborah Kamy Hull received a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from Boston University School of Fine Arts. She has received grants and fellowships from distinguished organizations such as the Tree of Life Foundation, Opportunity Fund, Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture and the City of Boston; Artists’ Fellowship, Inc., A.R.T. (Artists Resource Trust) Fund; Massachusetts Cultural Council and Polaroid Foundation Support Grants for Artist–in–Residence at Do While Studio, Boston, MA; Change Inc.; National Endowment for the Arts, Painting Fellowship; The Artist’s Foundation Painting Fellowship, Massachusetts Council on the Arts and Humanities; Elizabeth T. Greenshields Memorial Foundation. Hull lives and works in the South End of Boston, where she has been experimenting with different forms and methods of image-making. Over many years she has participated in several exhibitions in New England, including at HallSpace, Boston.
